French ATM

Paper Plane ATM

I'm not an ATM collector but it's an area of philately that can be very interesting... don't you agree? At least you don't need to worry about the stamp perforations! eheeh!!

Well... Bellow there's a cover from France, do you know which ATM machine printed this stamp? And how many different ones did France issue?

Hi,

It's not an ATM (but the ticket is the same for ATM). I'm not sure how to say this in english : it's an informatic postmark printed by the postal clerck and immediatly fixed to the letter. ATM at the contrary can be used later and are cancelled on the letter (so, no date printed for instance, only the face value).

About Frenc ATM : the first ATM ever is French (1969, search for Montgeron), numerous tests in 1980's. The large usage begand arround 1990 : only 2 tickets : Birds then paper plane (plus a few locals at philatelic exhibitions each year).

Thank you for your message Dominique. It's great to always learn new things with my blog readers. Do you have some images of the ATM stamps from France? If so, please email them to me :) thanks

It is a postage meter. In France, the post office computer edits postage meter like this one on the same ticket than ATM.
