Joint Issue Canada-Japan

Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables is the name of a book published in 1908 and written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, a Canadian author.

Canadian issue 2008

According to WIKI "The novel is very popular in Japan, and Anne is an icon there. Many Japanese couples have wedding ceremonies on the grounds of the Green Gables farm and some girls arrive with red-dyed hair and pigtails, to look like Anne."

Japanese issue 2008

How famous is Anne of Green Gables in your country?

Oh God, i loved Anne of Green Gables, in portuguese "Ana dos Cabelos Ruivos", and i watched every single episode. This was maybe 16-18 years ago and I still remember the song.

Martinha,

Thank you for your comment!

Yes, I agree... Anne of Green Gables is probably known worldwide!

Take care :)

I live in Canada where, naturally, Anne of Green Gables and Lucy Maud Montgomery are both very popular! I have actually created a page full of information on Anne and I am definitely looking forward to the new movie this fall.

Brenda,

Thank you for visiting!

A new movie, you say? That sounds great for the Anne's fans :)

Please keep us and this blog informed about it!

See you soon.

I was in PEI (Prince Edward Island) as I drove through there on my Canada trip in 2002. When I finally got over that massive bridge, I was amazed to see so many Japanese. They were there to visit the "Anne of Green Gables" setting. Had no idea that it was so popular to them.

A Canadian said that the Japanese weren't allowed to read many things after the war, but this book was, and the country fell in love with it.

Now if we can just find Middle Earth. Hmmm... lol.

Hi I'm Jason from PEI.

Nice blog.

My wife and I sell over 300 Anne items including stamps. We also offer many items that have the same Beyond the Summerfields artwork as well

She's from Japan was a lecturer on Anne in English at a university in Tokyo. We are experimenting with offering Japanese Anne lessons online.

We love to talk about Anne and welcome non commercial inquiries as well.

I'm thinking of starting my own blog. Anyone have any thoughts about which platform is best?

P.S. The new Anne movie looks great!

Kindredly Yours,
Jason
