“Polar birds that visit the Portuguese coast”
"Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea), which migrates annually from the Arctic to the Antarctic, passing over Portuguese waters.
Sanderling (Calidris alba), which nests in the High Arctic in such remote locations as Greenland, Siberia and Ellesmere island.
Wilson’s Storm Petrel (Oceanites oceanicus), which nests on the islands of the Antarctic, is another quintessential representative of this icy continent.
Razorbill (Alca torda), which nests on Arctic cliffs and spends its winters off the Portuguese coast. A species that dives for food, it is frequently entangled in fishing nets, causing large numbers to be washed up lifeless on Portuguese beaches."
