Today 2 postcards:

Sagrada Familia - Barcelona - Spain

The 1st one sent to me from Barcelona... by a Czech girl... Thank you Vanda! We sure had a great time in that amazing city in the summer of 2005... or was it 2004? Well.... It was great!


The second postcard was sent to me by Georine... another blog participant! Thank you!

This postcard depicts the 100 Years Anniversary of the Etosha National Park in Namibia!

Today the Indian Princess knocked at my door... in the form of a postcard sent from Canada!

On the backside of the postcard reads: Remembered for her verse and stories, Emily Pauline Johnson Tekahionwake toured the world as the "Indian Princess", regaling crowds with romantic tales of Native American life. She is buried in Stanley Park.

Annie Oakley... Postcard!

Today I've received a postcard (with a female) from Canada... Yes, I also collect postcards with female figures and Annie Oakley is one very special woman.

On the backside of the postcard you can read:

Nicknamed "Little Miss Sure Shot", Annie traveled many years with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Her accuracy with rifle and pistol astounded thousands who flocked to see the show. She once shot a cigarette from the mouth of Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany.

The stamps (all 2008 isses) used were:

1. Founding of Quebec City (joint issue with France), issued on May 16.


2. Royal Canadian Mint, issued on Jun 4.


3. Beijing 2008 Olympics, issued on Jul 18.

From France: Fête du Timbre!

Today is... postcard day... yes, sometimes I like to let you see the kind of postcards I receive in the mail...

The one bellow was sent to me from FRANCE. On the front of the postcard you can see General de Gaulle - 18th President of the French Republic and a key figure in WWII - to learn more please click here.

On the back of the postcard (bellow) you can see a stamp and the cancellation of the french Fête du Timbre 2008. This event was created in 1938 and this year it has the goal to promote philately and the exchange of letters between everyone! Shouldn't this be the goal of all Postal Administrations?! I wonder...

Do you like cartoons? Aren't these little figures... drawn with a pencil... at least before PC animated cartoons... always present in the happiest corner of our minds? Hope they are in yours as they are in mine!

Have fun and watch some animated movies or read some comics! eheh!

Desert Santa!

First of all... let me thank you for sending me this postcard... really peculiar... a desert Santa not our common snow Santa! eheh! Wishes of an excellent 2008 to you and family!


On the back of the postcard you can see 3 stamps.


The 1st two Comics stamps belong to a set of 10v issued in 1999 in a booklet. They are self-adhesive.
The last one depicting a Turkey was issued in 1997 in a Christmas set of 4v.

From Japan

Today I have a nice Christmas Postcard to show you. It was sent from Japan and it's a UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) card... If you are planning on sending Christmas cards why not buying some from Unicef and help the children they support, great idea isn't it?


The stamps used were: the one on the left... I have no information about it... maybe Eric with his new Japanese stamps catalogue could help! Eric... if you are reading this please give me some help here!! Thank you!
The one on the right was issued 1975: 9th World Petroleum congress in a 1v set.

Sanjusangendo Hall - Japan

Above you can see a front view of a Japanese Postcard showing "A thousand and one images of Buddha" at Sanjusangendo Hall in Kyoto.

Sanjusangendo is a Buddhist temple in Higashiyama District, built in 1164. Some interesting images here.


On the back you can see 4 stamps. The left 2 stamps are from a set of 4 about "Wedding of Crown Prince" issued on April 1959.

The last 2 stamps were issued on the Philatelic week years 1968 and 1972.

Nagoya Castle - Japan

Hello! Today I'm showing you one postcard of an aerial view of the Nagoya Castle. It's located in Nagoya Aichi, Japan. According to Wiki there's another castle named Nagoya in Hizen Province, interesting fact isn't it?
It was built around 1525. On top of the castle there are two golden imaginary tiger-headed fishes, motif used as a talisman for fire prevention. *Need to get some for my own home... you can't have too many fire protection, can you? More images and videos here.


On the back you can see 3 stamps... Of the 1st I didn't find any information... know anything about it? Issue date? Design? The 2nd and 3rd stamps belong to a 2v stamp set issued in 1971 about the Japanese National printing house. They are all very nice, aren't they?

Gargoyles in Paris

We will always have Paris...

Yesterday I went to a marriage... and yes, that's the reason for not having posted... but I'm glad for having great blog contributors that frequently post, and they post it good, don't you agree?

Well... all this to say that the marriage was in a nice church that somehow made me remember one postcard I've received some days ago... I have to be very "stampoholic" to think of it when I'm attending a marriage, right? The postcard bellow shows us the gargoyles on top of the Notre-Dame Cathedral... what do you think of these Parisian watchdogs? A bit static... I would say... probably not the best candidates for a breakdance!


On the back of the postcard were 2 stamps issued this year 2007. One definitive stamp of 0.05 Euro and a commemorative stamp of the WC Rugby belonging to a m/s with 10 stamps.

Talking about rugby...
What do you think of the Portuguese team?

Not doing a very bad work for an amateur team...

Cancelled but no Postage Stamp

This is a postcard sent to my Grandfather during the WWI here in Namibia, which was then known as DSWA - Deutsch Südwestafrika.

The card was cleared by censors. What intrigues me is why there was no stamp on it?

I thought perhaps the stamp had been removed, on inspection it was clearly never stamped.
Just a little tidbit of interest. - i will post something more recent next time.

Germany (DDR)

800 Years of the City of Leipzig

In 1965 Germany (back then, Deutsche Demokratische Republik - East Germany side) issued a set of stamps to commemorate the 800 Anniversary of the city of Leipzig.

Leipzig's name is derived from the Slavic word Lipsk, which means "settlement where the linden trees (US; lime trees in UK) stand" - Wikipedia information.

I'm showing you today one very interesting postcard... at least I think so... will let you judge for yourself... ok?


On the front it has the old cities' view and on the back it has the stamps in full set with the 1st day cancellation... how often do you see this kind of circulated maxicard? Yes, I know it's not a maxicard since the stamps are on the back and there shoudn't be more than on per postcard... but you understood the idea, didn't you? How often do you see ones like this?

Wakayama - Japan

Hello! Today I'll show you one postcard I've received from Japan. It was sent from Wakayama (the capital city of Wakayama Prefecture in the Kansai region of Japan) and it depicts the Kinkakuji Temple... What is that? you may ask... Well... it was originally built in 1397 to serve as a retirement villa for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu... Wikipedia is really a friendly and powerful tool, isn't it?... If you want you can read more here.

On the back there were 2 stamps that I think are simple but very nice. Very much Japanese-like, don't you agree?

Just to let you know that this isn't a postcard blog per se but if I find something interesting I'll show it to you all, agree?
